Capsul Bioscope: Kim the Beloved—A Journey of Intentionality and Soul
Some artists perform. Others transform. Kim the Beloved does a bit of both. The moment he walks into a room, the energy shifts.
Signed to Azadi Records, with roots in Shillong and time spent between the city of Aizawl and Cleve Colony, a close-knit neighbourhood in Shillong. Kim is part poet, part prophet, and all heart. You can feel it in the way he talks, the way he dresses, and the way he delivers every lyric. Nothing’s accidental, every move has meaning.
His name itself reads like a verse. “Kim the Beloved” wasn’t just a stage name; it was a statement. “I used to armour up just to move through the world,” he says. “But this name was a declaration that I deserve to be cherished by others and myself.” Inspired by the verse “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine” from the Song of Solomon 6:3, Kim found not just a name, but a divine affirmation. “The first person to believe in that version of me was my Creator. He always saw the light in me before I could even recognise it.”
Now 30, Kim might be here in the present, but his soul is vibing with the ‘90s. That era shaped everything—his sound, his mindset, his rhythm. “Artists back then weren’t chasing trends, they were setting them,” he says. “Everything felt intentional, from the lyrics to the beats.” He grew up on a steady rotation of Run DMC, Michael Jackson, OutKast... even the underground had weight. “The ‘90s taught me how to tell stories and be unapologetically myself. That era raised me more than any classroom did.”
Growing up in Cleve Colony, music was everywhere. From Khasi tunes to rock, reggae, and hip-hop—it was all part of the mix. “It made me conscious about the stories I tell,” he says. “I want people to feel the rawness and honesty I grew up around.”
Kim went to St. Peter’s School, where he played the backbencher role like a pro, quiet when needed, loud when it counted. “I wasn’t top of the class or anything, but I had my own rhythm.” Creativity kicked in early. He was that kid starting dance battles during lunch breaks, turning the schoolyard into his first stage. That’s where it all began—moving crowds, bar by bar, step by step.
Even back then, he was inspiring people just by showing up as himself. “One of my juniors, Andy, went on to start Styl-O, that streetwear brand that’s now at Capsul. So I guess I’ve been pushing culture for a minute now.”
When we asked him to describe his style in three moods, he didn’t miss a beat: effortless, grounded, and a little off-centre. He’s drawn to fits that hold their own without yelling for attention. His favourite look from the Capsul shoot? The Strikeout Cord Jacket by Pleasures, belted denim pants by thisisneverthat, and his own loafers. “It just had that right balance, something I could rock on stage, wear on the street, or just vibe in with the crew. No extra shine, just presence.”
Shot in Mumbai, this Capsul x Kim the Beloved moment wasn’t just a shoot, it was a glimpse into someone who’s found strength in softness and moves like every frame means something.
